Chief Mark Soleski confirmed Wednesday that the shooter died of his gunshot wounds. Soleski said the man’s name was not being released because his next of kin had not been informed.
But two sources familiar with the investigation confirmed Wednesday that the shooter was Andre Bing. Police were stationed Wednesday morning outside a Chesapeake home that Bing apparently bought in 2019, according to real estate records.

The Chesapeake Conference Center gathering location was intended for immediate family members or emergency contacts of anyone who may have been in the building.
Among those gathered outside Wednesday morning was former Walmart employee Camille Buggs. He said he came to the convention center to find information on some of his former colleagues, whom he still considered family, but had not been able to reach them since the shooting.

“You keep saying you don’t think this can happen in your town, in your neighborhood, in your — your favorite store, and that just hits me,” Baggs, 58, of Chesapeake, said. Bugs, who now works at the nearby Greenbrier Mall, said she and her current colleagues usually stop at Walmart for snacks and food on the way home. However, they decided not to work on Tuesday night. She didn’t know the news until she got home.
